Save money at Target! These tips are written by a former Target store executive… Myself!
Do you want to find out some ways to save money at Target? These suggestions are EASY. Scroll to find out more…
1. Use a Redcard
This goes first because you can save money on everything at target (minus gift cards, and prescriptions, etc.). The savings is 5%, which may not sound like much, but it really adds up!
You have 2 options here: Credit or Debit.
The Debit card is awesome, because you link it to your checking account just like a regular debit card, only you can just use at Target. They are passing transaction fee savings along to you.
Some other features of the redcard:
- Free 2-day shipping on target.com
- Exclusive coupons
- Early access to products and promotions
- Last, extended returns.

2. Cartwheel
Cartwheel is a coupon app within the actual Target app. I’m sure you have heard of it by now. Some coupons are manufacturer coupons, but most are 10%-50% savings. You can use cartwheel in conjunction with manufacturer and target coupons. (More on that next).
I love how you can scan each product with the app to check if it is on cartwheel, and it will automatically add to your wallet.
3. Manufacturer Coupons stacked with Target Coupons
This is pretty self-explanatory, you get to use one manufacturer and one target coupon per item! Also use it with cartwheel for even more savings!
You can also take your receipt and add offers from ibotta (a coupon app) in order to get even more savings back!
4. Gift Card with Purchase
Diapers? Cleaning supplies? Toilet Paper? I don’t buy any of these items unless there is a gift card offering!
Most of the time you have to buy between 2-4 items that are alike and you get a $5 or $10 gift card to use on your next purchase. You can even split up your transactions for immediate use!
5. Price Match
Target will price match online advertised prices that are in stock. Amazon.com must be sold by Amazon. This is great because you can still use your REDcard to save 5% more!
6. Price Adjustments
Scour the weekly ad. If you bought an item at Target that goes on sale within 14 days, you can go back and get the difference. Just bring your receipt!
7. Clearance
Target has some great clearance. Odds are you can even get stuff 70-90% off if you wait. However, you want to snag up goodies when you see them because so many people have the same idea.
Do you stock up on plates and cutlery? If you shop after a holiday you can find these items with a steep discount, just because they were sold in the holiday section. Often times, they don’t even look seasonal.
8. Target Registries and Lists
Both Wedding and Baby registries come with a free gift when you sign up for a registry. These have freebies and coupons in them!
Also, you will get a coupon emailed to you about 6 weeks prior to the event date, which allows you to purchase items left on your registry at 15% off.
Signing up for a list or a registry also puts you on Target’s mailing list, and who doesn’t want a free $10 off a $50 purchase every now and then?
9. Restock
Target restock is like subscriptions. They are awesome because you save 15% on your first sign up and 5% thereafter. You can easily adjust your subscriptions anytime you need to.
This is a great way to buy essentials like paper towels without even thinking about it!

10. Ask your Store what their Inventory Date is!
Most people don’t even know about this easy way to save. This is an annual thing! You might say, “Well that’s only once a year.” But, if you are the lucky one to shop the day after inventory, you might go home with some awesome stuff.
My local target does inventory in June. Every year in May I ask if they know when their inventory will be. That way I can hit them up the day after the inventory for HUGE savings.
Many items that do not scan in the inventory have to be given a price value, and if the item is no longer in the system or was online-only they usually put a 70% sticker over the barcode and put onto clearance endcaps. YOU CAN SAVE BIG MONEY.
That’s it! You should be well on your way to saving money at Target! I want to hear from you…What is your favorite thing to buy at Target? Or what other places do you like to shop and save money?

These are great ideas. I use the Redcard every time I shop. I have also taken advantage of the price match (with Amazon) quite frequently. It is always wonderful to save a few dollars.
I shopped more at Target in the last year than I ever have before and really enjoyed my little trips. I’m definitely not taking full advantage of all the savings programs they offer, and what a fabulous idea about shopping the day after inventory!
Wow those were great ideas. Being from Canada we don’t get to shop at target all the time. It is always on the list and these tips will be too!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!
Thanks Karen, I’m glad you enjoyed!
One trick I learned while living in Hawaii is that if you check out at customer service, they will price match their website (which is often dramatically cheaper).
Hi Bailey, thank you for your comment! Price match is so helpful! They also updated it to empower all cashiers to be able to price match so it is even more convenient.
Cartwheel is amazing! I don’t have RedCard yet because the closest Target is an hour away and I don’t get there as often as I like…
I’m loving the inventory idea. 🙂 Thank you!
Thank you for your comment! You know the best thing for me about the red card is the free shipping! You don’t even have to get around a target very often and you can still shop online for some great deals.
These are excellent tips! I love the gift cards with purchase!

Jessica, I’m so glad you know it now!! I have saved $25 in one transaction once from headphones going on a deeper discount the following week! It pays to look at the ad and take your receipt to the service desk! 🙂
